Low Voltage Technician – Commercial Construction

LINX is hiring Low Voltage Technicians to install, terminate, and test structured cabling on commercial construction projects, paying $20.00 to $29.00 an hour depending on tier and experience. 

Where This Role Fits at LINX  

Technician I → Technician II → Technician III → Lead Technician → Foreman → Superintendent → Project Manager → Senior Project Manager → Operations Manager. 

What You’ll Be Doing  

Cable Installation & Termination  

• Install, terminate, and test structured cabling systems for CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6a, fiber optic, and coaxial cable runs 
• Pull, suspend, fireproof, terminate, and test cable in accordance with BICSI standards, NEC, and local code 

Closet & Rack Build-Out  

• Build and maintain MDFs and IDFs, including racks, patch panels, wire management systems, and network hardware 
• Troubleshoot low voltage cable systems and correct installation issues as they surface 

Quality & Documentation  

• Document every installation for compliance with industry standards and project specifications 
• Deliver organized, professional workmanship that meets spec on every run 

Site Professionalism & Customer Service  

• Communicate directly and professionally with site contacts to resolve technical issues and provide solutions 
• Deliver organized, high-quality workmanship on every installation to meet project specifications and exceed customer expectations 
• Travel to job sites within your home state as assigned, with occasional travel elsewhere in the country when project needs require it 

Minimum Requirements  

Required — Technician I (applies to all levels):  

• Able to work on ladders and use power tools; able to lift, carry, and set up a 50-pound box or ladder 
• Must own low voltage hand tools (snips, strippers, screwdrivers, wrenches) 
• Available to work 2nd or 3rd shift, overtime, and under deadline pressure 
• Must pass a 7-year criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and physical 
• Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and current auto insurance 
• Professional working proficiency in English, written and verbal 
• 1+ year of commercial low voltage installation experience 
• Able to terminate a jack, pull cable, and “work a 90” proficiently with limited supervision 
• Able to install, terminate, and test CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6a, fiber optic, and coaxial cable proficiently 
• Able to build out MDF and IDF closets, including racks, patch panels, wire management, and network hardware with limited supervision 
  

Required — Technician III (all Technician II requirements, plus):  

• 2+ years of commercial low voltage installation experience 
• Able to terminate a jack, pull cable, and “work a 90” proficiently with no supervision 
• Able to install, terminate, and test CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6a, fiber optic, and coaxial cable with no supervision 
• Able to build out MDF and IDF closets, including racks, patch panels, wire management, and network hardware with no supervision 

This Role Is Probably Not Right For You If  

• You’ve never worked hands-on with structured cabling, and you’re looking for an IT help desk or desktop support role instead 
• You need the same job site and the same routine every day, this work moves between offices, schools, and healthcare facilities 
• You’d rather work solo than as part of a crew — Team LINX means making each other better and winning together, not going it alone 
  

Preferred (Not Required)  

• Commercial construction experience 
• BICSI Technician or Installer certification (Copper or Optical Fiber) 
• Powder Actuated Tools Certification 
• Confined Space Certification 
• CPR and First Aid certification 
• Manufacturer certifications for installation and maintenance (Fluke, Fujikura, Sumitomo, Corning, Hilti) 
• High school diploma 

Compensation & Benefits  

Pay Rate:

• Technician I: $20.00-$23.00/hour
• Technician II: $22.00-$25.00/hour
• Technician III: $25.00-$29.00/hour.
